Versatility and Sensitivity

After the Modern Art Week of 1922, in Brazil, all artists can be classified as modernists. Despite this, each artist develops their own style that elevates them to a unique and often unclassifiable level, this is the art of Quim Duran.

Versatile, this artist uses the most varied techniques from the classic oil on canvas to ballpoint pen and colored pencils. Versatility is not limited to technique, Duran's style is also very varied, it is possible to observe works influenced by impressionism, expressionism and abstract art, even a touch of surrealism is identified in the work O Pot.

In general, all artists influence and are influenced, Quim Duran is no different, in the painting Preto Velho it is possible to see traces of impressionism, recognized in the loose brushstroke, as well as in the pipe and in the character's hands that were not defined by the drawing, but they arise in the mind of the beholder at the suggestion of the artist. In fact, the absence of sharp contours is one of the great characteristics of Impressionist painting.

Despite resembling an impressionist painting, the work cannot be classified exclusively, because the character's face is linear, showing the marks of time and the suffering life he probably had, the eyes are not sad or curious, they are melancholic and kind, melancholy that is reinforced by the white of the hair, details that transform the composition into poetry in the form of an image.

Possibly the description narrated would not correspond to the impression of another spectator when observing the painting, but that is what makes plastic art so extraordinary, because the same work can convey different sensations and feelings according to the experience of those who appreciate it.
